Will the "Database Search" (filing cabinet icon) look in the global or user database?
The Database Search will look in all the databases that you have included in your build. For more information see Searching for a block or tag in the database.
When I do a search in a tag database, can we get a table view of all the search results (with descriptions/short names, etc.)?
The search results already contain the tag name and description. For more information, see Viewing search results.
Are graphics configured and connected to the next/previous ones (like on the ABB console)?
Yes, via the hotspots on the drawings. Press CTRL-TAB to highlight all of the hotspots on a drawing. For more information, see Highlighting hotspots.
Can we change text color and background color?
You are able to change the text color but not the background color. You can change the color in the Properties For Hyperview - Color Scheme under Options... in Hyperview. For more information, see Changing colors on display.
Can we show color changes in graphics instead of digital 1's and 0's?
In the live loop display, 0's and 1's are displayed as well as white and blue boxes to graphically indicate the values.
Our SODG graphics have a light gray background (like Conductor). Can we turn it off to save ink when we print them?
No. You can invert the black background to be white for printing but you cannot do anything with the gray. For information on reversing a black background, see Printing the current topic.
On the tag database sheet, can we arrange information into columns for easy/multiple tag information reference?
No. However, you can use Access or Excel to view the DBF files DBDOC creates in your project's TAG subdirectory. Go look for them - we think you will be quite impressed!
Why do I see layered data when I print a drawing with live loop data displayed?
It may be related to your printer driver. Try setting the print option to "device-independent" and then print the drawing again.
Can we print a graphic with tag names showing?
Yes, no problem.
I chose to print my document to a file in Hyperview. How do I print .prn or .ps files with Windows 95/98?
To print from a command prompt, type the following:
Copy <path><filename.ext> LPT<x> /B
Where x is the correct LPT port number (such as LPT1).
To enable drag and drop printing for .prn or .ps files, follow these steps:
- Using any text editor, create a file called Printer.bat and add the following line: "Copy %1 lpt<x> /b", Where x is once again the correct LPT port number.
- Save the file in the Windows folder.
- Start Windows Explorer, and then click Options on the View menu.
- On the File Types tab, click New Type.
- In the Description of Type box, type Printer.
- In the Associated Extension box, type PRN or PS as appropriate for your printer driver.
- Click New.
- In the Action box, type Print.
- In the Application Used To Perform Action box, type: C:\Windows\printer.bat
- Click OK.
- Click Set Default.
- Using Windows Explorer, locate the Printer.bat file in the Windows folder. Use the right mouse button to click the file, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.
- Click the Program tab, and then click the Close On Exit check box to select it. Click OK.
- Using the right mouse button, drag the Printer.bat file to the desktop, and then click Create Shortcut Here on the menu that appears.
Note: If you are printing to a network printer, you must redirect an LPT port the your network printer.
After you follow the above steps, you can print .prn or .ps files using any of the following methods:
- Drag a file onto a printer icon
- Drag a file onto the Print.bat shortcut on the desktop
- Use the right mouse button to click a file, and then click Print on the menu that appears.
- Double click the file
Note: For the correct output, you must create the file using the same printer type as the printer you plan to use to print the file. In other words, you must send a file created with a PCL printer driver to a PCL printer ; a file created with a PostSc ript printer driver must be sent to a PostScript printer.
Can we monitor Batch aside from the stuff on the CAD sheets?
It is now possible to fetch live data for points in batch files. By right clicking on the a given point and selecting Get Output from the menu, you will be able to fetch the data. (Make sure that the live loop settings are set up correctly in Hyperview - see Live Data Configuration in Hyperview for more information).
Do you need Hyperview on every PC? Or can you read it directly from the server?
You do not have to have individual copies of Hyperview on every machine. It is possible to open Hyperview across the network; the speed will be based on the amount of network traffic.
Is there a limit to the number of topics I can search on?
No, there is no limit to the number of topics you can search on but the number of search results is limited to 5040. If you exceed this number, you will see an error message.
What does it mean if I see Error 11001?
Error 11001 means that you have a bad IP address specified for your CIUMon live loop. If you have configured your CIUMon settings in BuildPlus, go back to BuildPlus and select Live Loop / CIUMON Settings on the Project Options... property pages from the Tools menu and correct the IP address. If you do not want to permanently correct this problem, simply delete the offending IP address form the Options|Live Loop Setup in Hyperview. Alternatively, if you have configured your setup ONLY through Hyperview, make your IP setup correction there in the Options|Live Loop Setup.
I am trying to monitor live data in Hyperview but all I'm seeing is red boxes. CIUMON appears to be receiving requests and transmitting responses. What is wrong?
We do not know at this time what causes this problem. If possible, try closing Hyperview and re-opening it; we have found that most times this corrects the problem. We will continue to look for a solution as we gather more infomation.
What happens when Hyperview opens up my M14 file and I see an error box with the message "fmvRealize error 1016" and I don't see anything in either pane? Or how about when the text appears really strange?
This is another problem that we cannot pin down the actual cause of. The only solution that we can provide at this time is to close down Hyperview and reboot the computer - this should remedy the situation. We will continue to look for a solution as we gather more information.
Why have some of my tagnames been modified?
The characters ":" (colon) and ";" (semi-colon) are illegal in keywords (the things that we index in the Topic Title Search). We replace them with "-" (hyphen) in order to avoid Mediaview Compile problems.
If a tagname or an internal document title (e.g. for CLD files, M1 files, DR files) contains ":" or ";" characters, full-text searching and topic title searching will no longer have these characters.
How do I create an association so that when I double click on an M14 file in Windows Explorer Hyperview will automatically launch and open it?
To create an association that will automatically open up an M14 file when you double click on it, you need to do the following:
- Depending on your operating system, in Windows Explorer you should select the following from the menu:
- For Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0: View|Options....
- For Windows 98: View|Folder Options....
- For Windows 2000 or Windows XP: Tools|Folder Options...
- Click on the File Types tab.
- Depending on your operating system, do the following:
For Windows 95/98/NT 4.0:
- Click on the New Type... button.
- In the Associated extension edit box enter "M14" (without the quotes).
- In the Actions section click on the New... button. In the dialog box that appears, enter "open" in the Action edit box. For the Application used to perform action: edit box Browse... for the location of the hyperview_winsock.exe program. At the end of the program string in the edit box add a space followed by "%1" (including the quotes).
- Click OK to close down all the open dialog boxes.
For Windows 2000/XP:
- Click the New... button.
- Enter the file extension "M14" (without the quotes) and click OK.

For the Application used to perfrom action: edit box Browse... for the location of the hyperview_winsock.exe program. At the end of the program string in the edit box add a space followed by "%1" (including the quotes).
- Click OK or Close to close down all the open dialog boxes.
When I try to launch Hyperview through BuildPlus I see messages in the window about error 31 and error 6 and Hyperview doesn't open. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
There is a good chance that the version of Internet Explorer that is installed on the computer is not current enough hence the error messages. If the version of IE is below 5.0 then we recommend that you upgrade it with either the IE ki t that is available on the DBDOC Installation CD, if one was sent to you, or go to the Microsoft® website to download the latest version (link to the website now). Upgrading the Internet Explorer version should make the problem disappear.
When I launch Hyperview, it will just exit with the error 128. What can I do to fix this?
You can try upgrading your Internet Explorer, especially if the currently installed version is below than 5.0. This has fixed the problem for some sites that have encountered this problem. If this does not solve the exit 128 issue, then please contact us with your installation and system details and we will try to be of further assistance.
When I turn on the Vegas Lights in Hyperview, I get strange behaviour like the entire function code flashing on a CAD sheet or parts of my SODG graphics flashing. What is happening?
Currently if your settings are set for 256 colors or lower, the Vegas Lights will not work correctly. You will either have to turn off this feature or change the color setting to 16-bit color or better.
My annotations bounce around and leave stuff on the screen when I move them around. What is the problem?
There is a good chance that you have the option Show window contents while dragging turned on in your settings. If this is the case, turning it off will solve most of the problem. You can find this option in the following locations:
- Windows 9X: In Windows Explorer, look under Tools and select Folder Options.... Click on the View tab and look for the option under Visual Settings.
- Windows NT: Open the Display Properties in the Control Panel and choose the Plus! tab to look at the option.
- Windows 2000: Open the Display Properties in the Control Panel. Click on the Effects tab and the option should be listed there.
- Windows XP: Open the Display Properties in the Control Panel. Choose the Appearance tab and click the Effects... button – the option will be listed in the dialog.
My text is light gray, fuzzy and unreadable. For example, when I bring up a drawing, all lines and symbols are dark and well-defined. The text, however, is light gray and unreadable until it's magnified four or more times. Even then some text is still gray, fuzzy and hard to read until it practically fills the screen. Is there anyway to sharpen up that text in full-screen mode?
We have found that in Windows XP you can select which method to smooth the edges of screen fonts. By default this is set to Standard; if you change this to be Clear Type the text will become clear.
You can find this setting by going into the Control Panel and double-clicking the Display option. In the Display Properties click on the Appearance tab and click the Effects... button. You should see the option Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts checked; in the drop-down box choose Clear Type and click the OK button.
How do I get to the Audit Window?
Make sure that your focus in Hyperview is in the content pane (the right pane in Side-by-Side view or the lower pane in Upper-and-Lower view) and that you have an appropriate topic open in that pane (such as a CAD drawing or a graphic). You should see that the View Audit Window button is enabled on the toolbar. Alternatively, you can right-click in the content pane to bring up the pop-up menu to see that the Audit Window... option is enabled. Click on either option to open up the Audit Window. For more information, see Viewing the resources used in a drawing with the Audit Window.
What is expected in the "IP Address" field in the "Live Loop Setup" option?
You will need to enter in the IP Address of the machine that is running CIUMon and has the actual physical connection to the CIU. You can either enter in the numerical IP address (eg. 10.1.186.0) or use UNC (universal naming convention) names, i.e. the name of the computer on the network (eg. Computer1.gmcl.com). You can check the IP Address of the machine by bringing up a command prompt and typing "ipconfig" (without the quotes) - this should give you the numerical IP Address. For UN C names, you can find the name of the computer and the domain it belongs to by either: (a) looking at the DNS configuration of the TCP/IP properties in the Network panel (Windows 9X and Windows NT 4) or (b) looking for the computer name in the System Properties (Windows XP and Windows 2000) and getting the domain from the "ipconfig" command at the DOS prompt.
To determine if your machine can talk/reach the machine running CIUMon, open up a command prompt and type "ping" followed by the IP Address of the CIUMon computer, eg. "ping 10.1.186.0" (without quotes). If you see that you are getting a reply from t he machine (you should see something like "Reply from 10.1.186.0: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128") then you can successfully communicate with the remote computer. Enter in that IP Address, either the numerical or UNC name, in the Live Loop Setup and you should be able to fetch live data in Hyperview via the CIU connected to the remote machine.
How do I share my annotations with other people?
Until global annotations are implemented in Hyperview, you can share your annotations with other users by doing the following:
- Locate the <project_name>.ann file. This can be found in the following locations on the various platforms
- For Windows 95/98:
- If you have multiple user profiles, the annotation file will be created under:
- C:\Windows\Profiles\<user_logon>\Application Data\GMCL\DBDOC
- Otherwise it will be located in:
- C:\Windows\GMCL\DBDOC
- For Windows NT 4.0:
- C:\WINNT\Profiles\<user_logon>\Application Data\GMCL\DBDOC
- For Windows 2000/XP:
- C:\Documents and Settings\<user_logon>\Application Data\GMCL\DBDOC
- Make a copy of the file (right-click and select Copy from the pop-up menu or use CTRL-C).
- Locate the appropriate directory to paste it into (i.e. choose the correct user logon directory as outlined above of the person(s) that you want to share your annotations with).
- If there is an existing .ann file of the same name, rename it so you do not overwrite the user's own annotations.
- Paste the copied .ann file into the folder.
When the user opens up Hyperview to the that particular M14 then he will see your annotations instead of any that he may have entered. He can reinstate his own annotations by renaming your annotation file and naming his original .ann file back to its original name.
I have a large system. When I run Hyperview, things slow down for some time. Later on they are okay. I looked at the process with Task Manager and it said that Hyperview was using a large amount of CPU time for a while. What is happening?
Hyperview works over data in the M14 file when it is first started, using background processing. This is part of the way that we have made searches much faster in recent years. Please be patient – we believe that having faster search results for your entire session is good trade-off for a bit of CPU time used at the start.
Some lines seem to be missing on CAD/CLD diagrams in Hyperview. This makes it hard to see connections between blocks. How can I fix this?
A problem has occasionally been observed of lines not appearing on CAD/CLD diagrams as expected. This is annoying and can be misleading.
In general some combination of refreshing the screen, scrolling, and changing the zoom factor will cause the "missing" lines to reappear in any particular situation. For a more lasting solution, you can change the display options on your computer. Setting display options to "best appearance" is something to try.
This problem is hard for us to reproduce. If you see it, please contact GMCL. Solving the problem on your system may well be helpful to others.
Solution on Vista
The following procedure has worked to solve this problem on Vista platforms:
- From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
- Select System and Maintenance.
- Select Performance Information and Tools.
- Select Adjust Visual Effects (on the left).
- Select Adjust for best appearance.
